"A system is a set of interacting or interdependent components forming an integrated whole"
- System 1: The deeper side which focuses strictly in analytical and logical responses, making rational decisions. Yet, it consumes lot's of energy, therefore it tends to rest.
- System 2: The fast and automatic side, which basically acts by it's own will, being responsible for most human actions and reactions without humans being aware.
It might not be logical once you think about it, but we tend to rely on system 2 --we think fast--, as it has become a routine for our brain to act and react by natural instinct. The idea of systems is precisely what has allowed our decisions to depend on side 2, since we don't need to think much once a system has been set -- over time, we get used to it, we act by intuition.
Honestly, working without a system was nuts: having different campaigns two times a week, updating the website just when having time, or even posting small updates on Facebook to increment people flow just once in a while without a common pattern. But as crazy and time-consuming as it might seem, there where moments of the week when as soon as we got "down to work" the first words that came to everyones' mind were: "There's nothing else to do, we are done with BlendZ" .. COME ON.. a startup is a never-ending business, there's always something to work on, always a way to add value.
With this said, clearly there was something missing, the spark for ultimate productivity: we needed the POWER OF SYSTEMS, a method to avoid waisting 40 minutes of our time every day to discuss what we had to work on, it was time to be efficient, to establish a structure such as the one you unconsciously follow when waking up everyday before attending school.
