| An amazing family who was betrayed by "the man" was finally given the opportunity to shine without his help. "TECHO" is an organization that works to mitigate the effects of poverty, yet a club at FDR known as "Techo Club" was able to held a community build giving students an option to serve others who couldn't afford a shelter by themselves. After 4 months of collecting enough money to afford a house, I finally had the chance to travel to San Juan de Miraflores, and meet Celia, an amazing woman who fought to finally gain a place to live in. With 4 children she finally found her way out, and took a step forward to escape poverty. After two days, together with 9 peers and 2 supervisors, I was able to build up and almost complete a marvelous house which kept up a smile in a family, and a new life to begin. Even though we tried our best we could't finish perfectly the home due to lack of time. Though this depressed me and made me feel angry I learned that by just giving a gesture of happiness and service it's enough for a family that has nothing. We might have not finished the house, but the family was still extremely thankful for what we did, and they were willing to stay until the last minute to finally lift up the walls and the roof. You might think that your life is miserable, but after analyzing how these children and adults live, you will definitely notice that you live a perfect life, a life that everyone would desire to have. |

My purpose is to serve and teach others by being creative in every facet of life, encouraging them to pursue what matters the most for them.
My purpose is to pursue my passions by encouraging myself to be creative in every fact of life. After two years of my involvement in the innovation academy, I have a vision to accomplish, regarding knowledge and orientation within real life. I believe that after two years of taking advantage of the liberty to pursue my passions, I will become a deeply encouraged person to achieve what I believe is vital in my life. As a matter of fact, having four independent projects throughout my journey, will give me the opportunity to experiment with four different topics that as result will lead me to chose a final career, which I will hopefully spend the rest of my life in. Long- term goals:
Short- term goals:
Over the next two years in the academy, I would like to learn about handling businesses, studying the systems behind a functioning industry, and finally gain knowledge in different areas such as marketing, publicity, arts, design, and engineering. Even though most of this areas are not inter- connected, meaning that they have no correlation between each other, it would be interesting to have an idea of how the "real world" works, instead of continuing with a basic liberal arts program which we've been taken for years with no freedom in choice. By the time I graduate I will be aware if whether I like or I don't like a specific subject, yet, what i want to KNOW HOW TO DO, is having the KEY to have a successful and working organization or business. I want to be correctly guided through the path I'm interested in. I want to be sure that I should never regret what I do, and if it does happen, learn from my mistakes. After having a rewarding high school experience, I don't want people to remember me as one of the 15 students who was involved in the Roosevelt's Innovation Academy, instead, I want them to recognize me as a risk taker and someone who was not afraid to take another route in life. As a group, we, the innovation academy decided to have a simulation of the first day, but actually performing activities that we were passionate about. The group of fifteen was divided into three groups, and afterwards each group had the mission to organize an activity that was innovative and something that everyone liked. We began the simulation day at 7:00 am with a 5k race, which was meant to raise awareness and help people with Down Syndrome. We continued the day with a cool experience of riding bikes and having a glimpse of art in a museum known as the MAC. Finally we finished the day with an adventures horseback riding activity. After reflecting on the day we had, I learned that even though we had to wake up at 6:30 am a Sunday we were all extremely excited about the first day of the innovation academy. Because we as students had the opportunity to choose the activities I believe that these were things we were interested in, so we did each one of them with a lot of energy and perseverance even if tired. We had an amazing day were we not only did the activities, but we bonded as a group, we took pictures and we had the chance to film in some sections of our route for the Innovation Academy video. It was incredible how everyone was willing to participate and learn new topics. After all, some students might not like school because of work, boring subjects, etc. but I noticed that when someone is interested in learning something that they have chosen to learn from, they take advantage of every opportunity given, and that's exactly what happened in every activity. The simulation day was extremely fun, and we had a really pleasant Sunday together as a group. The activities were successful, and we were able to learn many things that are not necessarily common during a school day. |
