Summertime
It's our vacation
What time is it?
Party time
That's right, say it loud
Now lets get down to the real world: you´ll never be free after December 22nd once you graduate from school; if you want to survive and save money you'll be WORKING -- that's reality.
For as long as I remember, summer has always been a synonym (possibly the same word) as nothing. Changing to your nicest bikini, getting any towel from the closet, and laying down on hot sand -- come on! who doesn't want to get tanned-- thinking solely what is that you would like to complete from your bucket list. Unfortunately (I thought), this summer is kind of unusual. There's no more waking up at 11:00 am with a frown on my face, it is now about waking up at 7:00 am and moving down and across the city -- 1 hour to be exact -- to get to the office, the WORK PLACE. I have a boss, tasks, teammates, and an official department which I work for, and as my 3rd official working day, I can say that that UNFORTUNATELY has switched up to FORTUNATELY; 3 days have been more than enough to understand how valuable this experience will be, and how much fun you can have with a positive attitude (God that I've learned SO MUCH). To get a quick idea, this is where I´m standing: |
- I'm working at MegaPlaza, one of the biggest shopping centers in Peru (117,100 m2) and the one with the highest amount of visits per year, 36 million. At this time I'm working with the marketing department who is in charge of supervising all campaigns, special offers, events, presentations for international competitions, educating vendors, and maintaining the image of the company and an impeccable experience for the customers. The marketing team here at MegaPlaza has 6 people, 2 being helpers. They have thousands of tasks, their plate is pi l l ed up, nevertheless they still find the value in work, and that has allowed me to start enjoying certain aspects of marketing that have been completely new for me. I actually look forward on coming to work every single day!
By now, I've had a completely different experience in comparison to my first internship, Metropolis. For the first time, I have meetings with my boss where she gives me small lessons about the area of marketing and makes me analyze presentations, ones that I reflect upon. She teaches me the most crucial aspects of the area and how they are important for the shopping center. I've seen marketing studies, campaigns they've done, and several presentations to get an idea of what they complete on a daily basis, intrinsically motivating me to seek for more information and become a MASTER in marketing: I want to work here when I grow up!
- Working with "La Base De Datos" (basic information about each store at the mall to have a record) is quite a boring job, as my boss had already told me when she gave me the assignment. As I was missing the entertainment of marketing while I worked with the collection of information I started thinking about the purpose, and it resulted to have a clear one. Dividing the stores by sections will allow my boss to organize herself whenever she wants to have workshops with certain industries, for instance shoes and not food. Even, I'm able to inform myself about the variety of stores that MegaPlaza itself includes.
- Analyzing presentations about market studies has been a pleasure as I've been acquiring direct knowledge on how Peruvian systems work on a larger scale in terms of marketing.
Internal Consumer: People who sell a product, one who owns a store.
