One of the most important reflections you need to do before editing is planning. You need to be organized when it's time to edit, having deadlines, clips you will use for sure, and mainly, a solid idea of how you would like to edit your film. If you are clueless of your work when you start editing, you will have lots of problems. It's challenging to edit a 20 minutes film if you don't have an organized beginning - middle - end structure of the synthesized concepts regarding your information.
Dedicating time to edit my documentary was valuable. With about 4 hours of dedication on Saturday, and 6 hours on Sunday, I was able to finish a big chunk of my film; however, I've been working in disorder. Since I had all the interviews I wanted to use separated in pieces in Final Cut Pro, I was able to select the b-roll and start editing the last clips before the first ones, for instance. I finalized all the interviews I wanted to use, and I implemented in almost all of the clips b-roll from Manchay. Regarding Final Cut Pro, I'm loving it. The program has many facilities to edit, and there are many interesting ways to vary the media within the film. Even though it includes everything I need to edit my documentary, the program constantly freezes and it sometimes works extremely slow; it's quite annoying. But, even with these issue, I've been falling in love with Final Cut Pro. |
Something that I've been learning throughout the process, is how lack of productivity might affect your entire working system. After all, the best way to work is by having intense periods of pure work and then small breaks when you start to get tired. If you work consecutively with no distractions for a certain amount of time, you will probably advance a large section from |
