| An amazing family who was betrayed by "the man" was finally given the opportunity to shine without his help. "TECHO" is an organization that works to mitigate the effects of poverty, yet a club at FDR known as "Techo Club" was able to held a community build giving students an option to serve others who couldn't afford a shelter by themselves. After 4 months of collecting enough money to afford a house, I finally had the chance to travel to San Juan de Miraflores, and meet Celia, an amazing woman who fought to finally gain a place to live in. With 4 children she finally found her way out, and took a step forward to escape poverty. After two days, together with 9 peers and 2 supervisors, I was able to build up and almost complete a marvelous house which kept up a smile in a family, and a new life to begin. Even though we tried our best we could't finish perfectly the home due to lack of time. Though this depressed me and made me feel angry I learned that by just giving a gesture of happiness and service it's enough for a family that has nothing. We might have not finished the house, but the family was still extremely thankful for what we did, and they were willing to stay until the last minute to finally lift up the walls and the roof. You might think that your life is miserable, but after analyzing how these children and adults live, you will definitely notice that you live a perfect life, a life that everyone would desire to have. |
