I woke up at 7:30 am and as I walked towards the diving center building, the only thought I had was Sharks. I was so nervous about them that it diminished my excitement about the morning dive. Yet even if this was such a strong thought, deep inside I new that nothing was going to happen and that diving together with my family and friends was going to smack down this thought. |
| During the first dive as soon as I got in the water, everything was perfect. The temperature of the ocean was fine, the day was sunny, I was not scared, and the clarity of the ocean was wonderful. But there was one thing that made my dive stressful, MY EARS. As I started going down with help of the rope and the metal tube below the boat my ears started hurting. I was not able to decompress one of my ears, and as I kept on increasing the depth I couldn't handle the pain. At first it was very simple, I went up together with Diandre, my instructor of the day, and he helped the pain go away. I was ready; I started going down again and when I reached about 5 meters it started hurting again. I called Diandre and I told him that I wanted to go up once more. He helped me again and as I followed the same routine as the beginning, my ears kept on hurting; I COULDN'T DECOMPRESS THEM. Diandre came out of the ocean again and he told me that it would be better to stay out in the boat and wait for the second dive, but I didn't want to do that. I tried once more and it finally worked, but it was a very bad experience because I started to get desperate due to the situation, something that should never happen underwater. |
