The first ideas that come to my mind when I hear COLLEGE is:
Is it GOOD?
What's the acceptance rate?
Is it a better college than Harvard?
What's the acceptance rate?
Is it a better college than Harvard?
It's a stereotypical thought that I've had since they told me that I had to start researching for colleges. It's true, a year an a half is not too much time as to decide what I would like to do once I graduate from school. But the worst part, is the reason why I hate talking about college. It's because I have no idea what I want to study, where I want to study, and who I want to be.
Right now, I have this hodgepodge of ideas mixed up in my mind. A list of colleges that I admire when people are accepted. A bucket list of places I want to visit some day, and maybe even study their. But the truth is, that I can't decide upon a couple of colleges where I would like to attend, because I have NO IDEA, and NO CLUE, what I want. Luckily, over years, I've noticed what are my strengths and weaknesses in the academic area, and I've selected some courses that I would prefer taking than other. Probably, I would rather dedicate my time in something related to math, instead of reading, but.. I also ❤ science. That's why, it's hard to find one exact career that I would like to pursue... so it's time to start looking up for my PERFECT FIT.
I GOOGLE up frequently mentioned colleges, and the first images that pop up, are probably a large number of the few universities I know that exist.
But would I like to apply to any one of these prestigious names and great universities? Obviously I would love to be accepted into Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Duke, Columbia, etc, but do they have the exact program that I would like to be involved in? I also need to keep in consideration, that there are great universities in Europe, and even in Peru, where I would love to study as well.
In fact, it would be priceless if this coming ☼ summer I had the chance of taking a program in one of these universities, and actually experience how the campus works, the style of living, the people, the classes, the type of education, and if I would prefer campus or city.
It would be perfect for me to decide what college I want to go to, and then select the summer program if I would go for one month. But, If I would spend the next four years of my life in another country, I would definitively prefer to decide what I want to study first, and then choose the best college for my dreamed career.
After doing some research about possible careers, I found some options that interest me and are related to some of the subjects I've enjoyed in school.
---------------- Starting the look up for possible careers ... not finished ----------------
Biomedical Sciences "Biomedical scientists focus on how cells, organs and systems function in the human body, an exciting and dynamic area that is highly relevant to the understanding and treatment of human diseases. Although biomedical sciences shape modern medical practice, the subject is not a substitute for Medicine." (Oxford University) |
| Environmental Sciences "The interdisciplinary Environmental Studies major examines natural and cultural systems from many viewpoints -- scientific, economic, ethical, historical, political, and sociological. Students study the uses and protection of resources essential for economic development and public well-being." (Rollins College) |
Industrial Design in: (click the image you desire to read more about the program offered) | Industrial Design "Industrial designers study how humans interact with devices and environments, solving problems of design, usage and production, and they consider strategic business objectives in order to generate a memorable and positive experience for users." (SCAD University) "Industrial design is the professional service of creating and developing concepts and specifications that optimize the function, value, and appearance of products and systems for the mutual benefit of both user and manufacturer." (Georgia Tech) |
After researching, this are some of the many careers that I would be interested in studying. It is clear that the difference between each career is major, and there are definitively ones that I like more than the others, but still, this are all possible options. I need to keep investigating for more careers, and specially, networking and contacting people that have experience in a similar field, or even people that have studied some of the careers I would like to pursue. I have other interests as well, such as: engineering, marketing, etc, so I need to continue looking up for more and other choices.
