#ShapingUpMy2-MinutePitch
you need to get started, start making"
Don't get me wrong, I'm being crystal clear over here (sometimes, it happens): I'm that kind of person that chats while reading, takes 5-minute power naps before switching over to the next page, in fact, one that spends 10 minutes reading the same line 20 times just because I don't fully understand the meaning of it, I'm one that most likely forgets all I've read on the next day; probably, that's one of the main reasons why I don't enjoy reading as much as I would like to -- just because of this foolish mentality. |
As a quick overview, Creative Confidence opens your brain, it nurtures your innate capability of developing creativity, motivating and empowering you to act upon your weaknesses and transform them into strengths, one of the reasons why I find this book so special. Stimulating both my ideas and way of thinking towards another path --one were you explode singular opportunities in the world of innovation and creativity: giving a special twist-- has enabled me to take challenging risks, envisioning courage (which is needed) as "the accumulation of small steps" (pg. 65) such as Tom and David Kelley.
With this said, there are various aspects of this book that have encouraged me to view reading from a distinct point of view. Tom and David Kelly utilize certain style in language that maintains a strong relationship with the reader: they fill up their statements with concrete examples and personal experiences that they've had to adapt to for success. This allows you to understand their creative vision in the goals they've achieved: what is the entire purpose behind the book, what is it that they want you to uptake as you absorb the information shared. |
Apart from the fascinating topics that are discussed throughout ever single chapter, Creative Confidence permits the reader not only to learn about the essentials of being creative, it also opens a space for reflection as you turn page by page. The ultimate purpose of these brothers is to shape-up the creative side in everyones souls, as being creative doesn't have to mean starting from scratch or being the sole creator, it's about adding what you can, about making a creative contribution. And this is exactly what shows up in reflection as you detach the most important attributes from every point of view they give in the story; you get to understand what you want but always taking it back to the same unanimous idea.
Now, it's important to keep in mind that reading such a detailed and well-thought-out book has no sense if you don't take some kind of action once finished. There is a wide variety of actives that you can try in order to lift up the bridge of creative confidence, which is actually worth it. "The value lies not in the idea, however, but in the action" (pg. 212).
